Seawolves Put Up Season High Score, Swim Past Cats in Houston

SEAWOLVES PUT UP SEASON HIGH SCORE, SWIM PAST CATS IN HOUSTON

The Seattle Seawolves hit the road again as they headed to Houston to take on the Houston SaberCats. The Seawolves have been a second half team for the entire season, but in this road game - they came out ready to charge from the start. They took the lead going into halftime and ran away with the game in the second half. The Seawolves spiked to second in Major League Rugby rankings with a dominating 52-12 win over Houston.

 

KICK OFF:
After a fifteen-minute lightning delay, Ben Cima kicked off the game. A victorious line out for the Seawolves was followed by a Houston penalty, allowing Phil Mack to quick tap and dish the ball wide to Kellen Gordon for an open route to the try zone. Brock Staller missed the wide conversion, Seawolves were up 5-0 only four minutes into the game. Another penalty was called on the SaberCats which gave Brock Staller a chance to kick for points. The kick was good, Seawolves 8-0 twelve minutes in. A Houston line out opened up attacking efforts for the Cats, seeing Sam Windsor spot a gap in the Seattle defensive line and sail in for a try. The conversion kick was missed, 8-5.

 

20 MINUTES:
The Seawolves dominated possession and the Seawall held strong. A Phil Mack kick down the pitch bounced up to Ben Cima who chased down the kick and popped the ball off to Nakai Penny, who was able to dive in for a try. Staller’s kick was wide, 13-5 ended the first half.

 

40 MINUTES:
Known for being a second half team, the Seawolves had a major advantage with their strong first half start. Both teams traded off possession until a SaberCats offsides penalty was called, which gave Brock a penalty kick. The Seawolves took the first points in the half, 16-5 Seawolves. The Seawolves extended their lead when the SaberCats were called for not releasing, which gave Staller a shot at a kick. The kick was good, 19-5 Seawolves. Brock Staller intercepted a pass and flew down the pitch for a try untouched. He converted his own try which extended the lead, 26-5 at the 57th minute.

 

60 MINUTES:
The Seawolves won another line out and began a maul to drive into Houston’s try zone and Stephan Coetzee dotted down another try. Staller’s kick was just to the left, but the lead grew further to 31-5 Seawolves. A redirect midfield to attack he right side allowed Brad Tucker to slide in for a try. Staller converted from the sideline, 38-5 Seawolves. The SaberCats finally found their break in the Seawall and dotted it down for a try, kick was good 38-12. The Seawolves answered back with a breakaway by Roland Suniula, and a successful kick, 45-12 Seawolves with four minutes remaining. Mat Turner got his shot at another long run and flew into the try zone to end the game, 52-12 Seawolves.

 

FINAL SCORE:
Seawolves beat the Houston SaberCats 52-12.
