Polson was born in London, Ontario and began playing mini rugby at age 7 with the Velox Valhallians RFC in Victoria, B.C. In high school, he played for Claremont Secondary and had a brief stint with Prince Alfred College in Adelaide, Australia. He began his collegiate career with the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario before transferring to University of Victoria in 2008 to play lock with the Vikes. After graduating in 2013 and taking two seasons off to heal from injury, Polson returned to the sport in 2016 with Castaway Wanderers RFC in Oak Bay, B.C.

This past summer, Polson played with fellow Seawolves teammates and BC Bears Phil Mack and Brock Staller as they became national champions at the 2017 Canadian Rugby Championship.
